Navigating The Noise: Finding Reliable Nutrition Advice

Writer's picture: James BezantJames Bezant

In the realm of nutrition, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information and opinions circulating on social media platforms and podcasts.

From influencers touting the latest fad diets to self-proclaimed experts making bold claims, it can be challenging to separate fact from fiction. In today's blog post, I want to delve into the importance of seeking out credible sources and qualified professionals when it comes to your nutritional guidance.

Understanding the Landscape

Let's face it: the world of nutrition is filled with polarizing figures who speak in absolutes and promote extreme dietary approaches. It's not uncommon to come across individuals on Instagram or podcasts espousing questionable advice that may lack scientific backing.

As someone who is passionate about health and fitness, I've certainly felt the frustration of seeing clients buy into these unsubstantiated claims.

Putting Things into Perspective

However, it's essential to recognize that not everyone has the same level of knowledge in nutrition, I’m no means an expert, I’m far from it, but being in the industry for over seven years gives you some good experience on understanding what’s right and what’s wrong, spotting red flags comes with the territory.

I understand that for many people, nutrition is not their area of expertise. Instead of getting frustrated with clients or followers who may believe misinformation, it's important to approach the situation with empathy and understanding which is something im working on.

One of the best ways to cut through the noise and find reliable nutrition advice is to seek out individuals who are not only morally upright and ethical but also qualified professionals in the field. These are the individuals who have dedicated their careers to studying nutrition, obtaining relevant certifications, and staying up-to-date on the latest research.

I recently did a post about all the people I have trust in on instagram, I’LL share the link later.

These qualified professionals who I believe offer valuable insights and trustworthy guidance in the realm of nutrition. By following their accounts and engaging with their content, you can gain access to accurate information that is grounded in science rather than speculation.

Moving Forward with Confidence

As we navigate the complex world of nutrition, it's crucial to approach it with a discerning eye and a willingness to seek out credible sources.

By relying on qualified professionals for guidance and staying informed about the latest research, we can make more informed choices about our diets and overall health.

Remember, your health is too important to be swayed by unsubstantiated claims or trendy fad diets.

By prioritizing evidence-based information and seeking out trustworthy experts, you can make a positive and sustainable change to your nutrition habits.

Here are some of the red flags I look for.

  • What’s the persons qualifications

  • Are they demonising food groups

  • What do they get out of it(usually money)

  • Are they talking in absolutes

  • The language they use around food(good/bad)

  • Do they talk about chemicals and toxins

  • Do they have a product for your issue

  • Do they have the scientific references for their claims Understanding the above will give you some good skepticism

If you have any helpful red flags, let me know :)
